Operated by our experienced staff, NCUT’s hydrotreating and hydrocracking pilot plants may be used in a wide range of testing and experimental programs in distillate hydrotreating and hydrocracking, dealing with feedstocks ranging from naphtha to lube oil to residue. These units have consistently generated precise data on catalyst stability, yield distribution, gas-make, and hydrogen consumption. They all contain tubular reactor systems designed for testing first- and second-stage catalyst packages under commercially realistic conditions

For more information on these pilot plants, please contact Dr. Zbigniew Ring (780) 987-8679 (e-mail)

PP-1
This unit is capable of on-line fractionation and recycling of unconverted products. It is a bench-scale reactor system that consists of two reactors, an interstage sampler, a high-pressure separator, a continuous distillation column, and a stabilizer. PP-1 can be configured to simulate the most common commercial hydrocracker configurations, including once-through, series-flow, two-stage, etc. A four-zone electric furnace heats the reactor. In addition, the reactors can be operated in either the up- or down-flow (trickle-flow) mode. Click here to view and download a detailed profile of PP-1.
PP-12 and 13
These are pilot-scale tubular reactor systems. Each unit consists of two reactors, an interstage sampler, a high-pressure separator, and a stabilizer. Both the hydrocarbon stream and the treat gas flow once through the system. An eight-zone electric furnace heats the reactor, which can be operated in either the up- or down-flow (trickle-flow) mode. PP-14
This is a micro-reactor system that consists of one reactor and a high-pressure separator. Gas flows once through the system. A three-zone electric furnace heats the reactor. Click here to view and download a detailed profile of PP-14.
PP-19
This is a bench-scale reactor system that consists of a single reactor, a high-pressure separator, and a stabilizer. Gas flows once through the system. PP-19 is configured to simulate a commercial single-stage hydrocracker or hydrotreater. A four-zone electric furnace heats the reactor.
